PRESENTATION OF THE SYSTEM  

2006-2009

The Agency for Quality Assurance in the Galician University System (ACSUG), following its general objectives of service to the society and analysing and improving the Galician University System, decided the implementation of a Quality Assurance System according the UNE-EN ISO 9001:2000 standard. On March 20, 2006, ACSUG certified the system which was in force until March 13, 2009.

2009-2015

Taking into account that the certification of the Quality Assurance System was going to finish on March 2009, ACSUG decided to extend the scope of the system, including all the activities carried out and integrating the environmental management (ISO 14001:2004 standard) in the existing system. The main reasons have been the following:

1) To insist in the ACSUG social responsibility as a quality control agency and to encourage the use of good practices in the university groups of interest.

2) To carry out a better waste management, energy efficiency, consumed natural resources and prevention of the contamination.

3) To boost in the efficient and effective carrying out of the services, incorporating good practices and environmental criteria in the daily work.

4) To foster the continuous improvement as the usual way of actuation in ACSUG

On February 26 and 27, 2009; AENOR carried out the certification audit of ACSUG. After the audit, ACSUG has achieved the certification in the UNE-EN ISO 9001:2008 and the UNE-EN ISO 14001:2004 standards on March 13, 2009. AENOR is a member of the international certification network (IQNet), so the certifications obtained by ACSUG have international prestige and they are recognised in a lot of countries of the world.

ACSUG is the first European university quality assurance agency which achieves these certifications.

Then ACSUG, with the aim to complement the environmental management previously implanted, carries out the integration of the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) in the internal management system. ACSUG achieves the positive verification by AENOR on 13 April 2010 and it is included in the Galician Register of Centres Adhered to the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme , which is administered by each autonomous community in Spain .

ACSUG, during 2010, adapts its Environmental Management System regarding the new version of the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme EMAS (nº 1221/2009).

One of the main requirements of EMAS is to carry out yearly a public document, explaining the environmental management in this period. This document is called environmental declaration. You can consult the ACSUG environmental declarations:

FIELD OF ACTIVITIES OF THE QUALITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

•  Services of evaluation of teaching staff prior to the hiring in the Galician universities and evaluation of the teaching staff for the assignment of complementary compensation.

•  Services of programmes assessment, assessment and monitoring of the Internal Quality Assurance Systems in the Galician Universities centres (FIDES-AUDIT Programme), monitoring of the implementation of the teaching activity evaluation models in the Galician universities (DOCENTIA Programme), labour market insertion analysis and surveys.
