ACTIVITIES RELATED TO LABOUR MARKET INSERTION FOR GALICIAN UNIVERSITY SYSTEM GRADUATES

The ACSUG has published the following studies:

- "Programme for labour market insertion for Galician University System Graduates 1996-2001"

- "Labor market insertion of Galician University System Graduates 2001-2003"

- “Graduate to employment: a study of university degrees 1996- 2003”

- "Labor market insertion of Galician University System Graduates 2003-2005"

- "Labor market insertion of Galician University System Graduates 2005-2006"

- "Labor market insertion of Galician University System Graduates 2006-2007"

These studies, along with others at the national level, are part of a common project that consists of creating a database of studies on work placement for university graduates. The final objective is to present the results of this type of study, not only to the university staff, but also to society in general.

The ACSUG has published : “ Demand for University Graduates by the Galician SMEs”.

This study takes a different viewpoint from the works carried out previously by the ACSUG, and relatively recent in the economic literature, since it bases its approach and results on the feedback and demand of the end users of the graduating students: the employers. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to determine the employers' needs for university graduates and to what degree the training they receive in the classroom is appropriate to those demands.

Nonetheless, the objective so defined is still too ambitious, since the concept of “employers” covers everything from self-employed work, by the graduates themselves, to public employment. That is why the group of employers to be covered by the work focuses on the case of the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

It is divided into two main sections: the first is designed to provide an overview of the labour market faced by university graduates, presenting the basic features of the job market in Galicia , compared with the situation at European and national level. The second section is aimed at revealing the current and future demand for university graduates, as well as the opinions of business sectors regarding university education.

In 2006 was created “Observatorio Universitario de Inserción Laboral: Estudios y herramientas metodológicas ” in collaboration with other Spanish agencies and bodies: The National Quality Control and Accreditation Agency (ANECA), the University System of Castile-Leon Quality Agency (ACSUCYL), the University System of Catalonia Quality Agency (AQU Catalunya), the University System of Galicia Quality Agency (ACSUG), the Andalusia Exploratory Centre (CANP) and the Centre for Higher Education Management Studies (CEGES) . Its aim is to publicise surveys and methodological tools related to labour market insertion.
