• Pursuit of excellence through external evaluation mechanisms of the teaching activities.

Information about the program

The program known as DOCENTIA (Program for Supporting the Evaluation of Teaching Activities) seeks to satisfy the needs of universities, as well as the rest of the educational system, by providing models and procedures for ensuring quality for university professors and for promoting their development and recognition.

This program's objective is to support universities in the process of designing and applying their own procedures for teaching evaluation. These procedures should ensure the quality of the instruction provided by professors while also promoting their development and recognition by means of evaluation by an external agency.

The DOCENTIA program takes as a reference the recommendations for Quality Assurance in Higher Education Institutions produced by the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) and included in its document Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area. Section 1.4 of these standards and guidelines, Quality Assurance for Teaching Personnel, is of special relevance here since it establishes that institutions must have means available for ensuring that the members of their teaching staff are qualified and competent in relation to the instruction they provide.

Based upon these considerations, and taking into account the framework for collaboration developed between the ACSUG and the ANECA (National Agency for Quality Evaluation and Accreditation), these two entities have signed an Collaborative Agreement for carrying out this program within the scope of the Galician University System, with consistency maintained at all times through the use of a common model.
